State of the Homelab

I just took the self-hosting survey 2026 and got graded on my hobby – and it was as bad as I feared.

There are the results:

I am a nerd, and my homelab is over the top in lot of ways! I have tried creating a state-of-the-homelab-post several times this year, but as it moves constantly it has been difficult.

Hardware

New additions

Some news – I got hold of three Lenovo M715q Tiny R3 2200GE for a steal¹ so I am finally building my first Incus cluster!

I ran into an issue in Incus caused by the short lived certificates (24h) I use in my homelab, but this was promptly fixed by the project and the fix got included in a recent release, so time to continue with this project again!

The end-goal is a cluster managed by OpenTofu. I might use these as bare-metal Kubernetes worker nodes at some point, though.

Existing hardware

Not much new here – my NAS works, and my Kubernetes cluster soldiers on. Still using my Brocade 6450-24p as my ‘main’ homelab switch.

Software

This is the hardest part – this is where my homelab is in constant flux!

Some of my most used applications are miniflux, navidrome, usememos, home assistant, authelia, linkding, forgejo, grafana and synapse/matrix. Nothing exotic there.

Some recent discoveries:

• tududi – project management
• flux-operator – fluxcd / kubernetes
• navibeat – navidrome client for macOS / iOS
• haproxy – finally started using it

I spend a lot of time fiddling with my Kubernetes cluster, both management and learning new stuff. This is very useful for my current job as well.

I am looking forward to start fiddling with sendspin audio at some point – self-hosted, multiroom audio with small computers or micro controllers.
